McDonalds in Germany isn't the restaurant we are used to in the USA. I list the differences below:
1)Cashiers don't speak English hardly at all. It's hard to make yourself understood. I had to carry around a slip of paper that said: Quitung to get a receipt.
2)McDonalds in Germany delays you in ways you wouldn’t imagine like paying for the bathroom. I've seen bathroom attendants in the hallway outside the stalls with plates for coins. Then you have to stand in line for food forever. That's after you've searched for parking at every single autohof or rest area, etc. or tried to find convenient parking in Munich.
3)You keep on asking yourself, "Is this really fast food?" It takes forever to eat meals. No one in Europe has heard of throwaway cup and paper burger containers. They insist on serving everything on china plates with real silver ware and glass cups. There's not even a wastebasket to toss out napkins. You have to leave them on your tray and slide your tray onto a rack. Weird!
3)Can you imagine a McDonalds With A McCafe That Looks Like a Bakery? This is a reality at all the autohofs in Germany, stops right off the autobahns, including the one in Munich. McDonalds is transformed into a posh cafe, serving fancy coffees and cappucinos, English breakfast teas, and pastries on china plates with real silverware.
4)There's no free wi-fi.
All these drawbacks interfere with the essential core of the fast food restaurant -- quick in and out and a cheap meal. If this sounds like an ugly American, so be it!
